Founded in 1973 by James Campbell, General Shelters of Texas, Ltd. is a family-owned manufacturer of portable, modular, and custom buildings. From our humble beginnings with just one product, the company has grown into one of Texas’s leading producers of cabins, storage buildings, steel buildings, and metal components. 

Based in Center, Texas, the headquarters and manufacturing facility sit on 26 acres in Shelby County, surrounded by the scenic Texas Forest Country. The company employs over one hundred dedicated workers committed to quality and customer satisfaction. 

General Shelters offers a wide range of building types to meet diverse needs — from basic storage and utility buildings to fully finished cabins, guest houses, classrooms, military-style barracks, and steel-building kits. We also roll-form our own metal for roofs and trim, manufacture carports, and produce a full line of steel building components. 

Even as it has expanded, the company remains true to its roots: family-owned, focused on quality, and dedicated to offering options in colors, styles, and custom features so that each building integrates well with its surroundings and meets each customer’s unique needs.
